Microsoft Corporation Likely To Launch Lumia 550 At October Event

Over the years, Microsoft has been the first-choice operating system for most PC users, although the company hasn’t tasted similar success when it comes to the smartphone industry. Having said that, the company continues to strive for bigger things in the mobile world as it looks set to launch a new budget Lumia phone next month.
Lumia 550 is reportedly being lined-up to debut at the Microsoft event, scheduled for October 6 in New York. The company has been heavily involved with the launch of a new flagship duo, Lumia 950, and 950 XL, as of late, although it is now being tipped to make an addition to the budgeted series of Lumia smartphones. This should be greeted fairly well by tight-pocketed segments looking to get a smartphone.
Lumia 550 is nicknamed “Saimaa,” and Microsoft is yet to lay light on the specs and features. Rumor has it that the device is home to a 4.7-inch AMOLED display with a 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. A 1.1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 quad-core is likely to feature, along with 1GB of RAM. The rear-camera offers 5MP, while the front-facing camera would click your selfies at 1.2MP only; both cameras are equipped with a flash each.
Saimaa offers 8GB of internal storage space, although the microSD card slot may have gone missing. The phone also offers LTE, hence making it the first in the 5-series Lumia smartphones to offer the connectivity. The body sees metal wrapped around the display, while a speaker is placed on the bottom-left corner on the rear end of the phone.
There are reports suggesting that Microsoft may roll out two models of Lumia 550. The major difference between the two phones would be the SIM-card slot; one of these would offer dual SIM support. With talks having emerged in the past week following the appearance of the model number of the two phones, RM-1127, and RM-1128, we might just be served with two variants.
Price is another element that Microsoft seems to have ignored for now. Given the specs on-offer, we expect the phone to be priced under $120.
In case Microsoft passes on launching Lumia 550 in October, expect to see nothing but the phone being rolled out with Windows 10 only. Microsoft is expected to introduce a host of new Windows 10 hardware, including the new Microsoft Band 2, and the ever-so-hyped Surface Pro 4.
