WhatsApp to enter digital payment For All Indian Users As Early As Next Week

WhatsApp Payments

After multiple delays in getting regulatory clearance, Facebook-owned WhatsApp is finally set to roll out its payment feature to all Indian users in the first week of June 2018. A report suggests that the UPI-based in-app payment services will be taken off from its current beta phase and will be rolled out for all the Indian users.

WhatsApp has been got permission from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to start working on the feature. WhatsApp payment services to the whole of India as early as next week in an attempt to win market share, even though its partners aren’t all ready, said people familiar with the matter. The messaging app will partner with HDFC Bank Ltd, ICICI Bank Ltd and Axis Bank Ltd to process the transfers, and State Bank of India will join once it has the necessary systems in place, the people said. Facebook was aiming for a full rollout with four partners but decided to go ahead with just three as its rivals were racing ahead, the people said, asking not to be named as the information isn’t public.

WhatsApp will be serious competitor to the popular digital wallets and payment apps like Paytm, Google Tez, PhonePe and so on. When the existing solutions are compared, Paytm recorded a huge 200 million user base in February 2018 and the rest are still fairly new in the race. So, it’s a good time and opportunity for WhatsApp to foray into the league and make the most out of its user base. With over 200 million monthly active users, WhatsApp surely poses as a solid threat to its rivals.

Experts suggest though the WhatsApp Pay option would more or less work on the same principle of sending and receiving payments, its ability to allow users to do it while chatting makes it a natural winner.

WhatsApp does not add an extra layer of security like Google does with its Tez payments app, but you do need to verify each payment using your UPI pin. Once set up, all you need to do is enter an amount and verify it using the UPI ID and the amount will be credited to the recipient's account.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp is yet to announce anything officially yet, but with pressure from competitors Paytm and Google Tez, Facebook may go ahead and announce a widespread roll-out by next week, despite SBI's systems not really ready yet.

Smartisan R1 is the First smartphone With 1TB of Storage

Smartisan R1

Chinese tech company Smartisan has taken the wraps off its latest flagship, the Smartisan R1. The phone packs in more storage than some personal computers available on the market. Is storage the only speciality of the device? Not really. Let’s find out what the phone has to offer.

Smartisan is one manufacturer that stands out with its design, the smartphone features a bezel-less display with a notch at the top. The display practically reaches the top with a cut-out for the front-facing camera and a slit for the earpiece. display is pretty big too, spanning 6.17-inches across, having a resolution of 2242 x 1080 pixels, and an 18.7:9 aspect ratio.  In a world where notches reign supreme, Smartisan has embraced the trend but has decided to follow the path of the Essential PH-1. It has a 6.17-inch pressure sensitive display with a 2242 x 1080 resolution and an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. It is covered with Gorilla Glass 3, has a 1500:1 contrast ratio, and a 96% color gamut (DCI-P3).

The display practically reaches the top with a cut-out for the front-facing camera and a slit for the earpiece. There is a moderately-sized bezel at the bottom which gives the Smartisan R1 an 84% screen-to-body ratio. Talking about the design, the phone does manage to check the right boxes as well. It is made up of grade 7 aluminium giving it a premium feel. The phone does have a fingerprint sensor which is located on the back and is very aesthetically embedded into the brand’s logo. The power and volume rockers located on the sides are circular in shape, which is a nice design element.

Smartisan R1 specifications

Smartisan has packed flagship specs into this device but has also set a record with it. For the first time in the history of mobile phones, we have a device with 1TB of built-in storage! Yes, the Smartisan R1 has 1 terabyte of internal storage and its UFS 2.1. The rest of the specs are also impressive. The Smartisan R1 is powered by the the latest Snapdragon 845 processor made by Qualcomm ticking at 2.8GHz coupled to the Adreno 630 GPU. This ensures that the phone aces almost any game or app you can throw at it. It will also come with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, so multitasking should never be a problem with this device.

  • 6GB RAM + 64GB storage
  • 6GB RAM + 128GB storage
  • 8GB RAM + 128GB storage
  • 8GB RAM + 1TB storage.

The Smartisan R1 has dual rear cameras. Which has a primary sensor is a 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor with a f/1.8 aperture, 1.4 μm pixel size, 4-axis OIS, and dual PD extreme focus. The second is a 20MP Sony IMX350 with a f/1.75 aperture, 1μm pixel size, and 6P lens.

The front camera is a 24MP sensor with a f/2.0 aperture ArcSoft ray algorithm and AI real-time beauty mode.

The latest offering from Smartisan checks all the right boxes as far as connectivity is concerned, offering 3G and 4G with VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, dual-band WiFi and a USB Type C port for charging and data transfer. In the battery department, it features a 3,600 mAh unit which is fairly large to last through a day’s use. In addition to that, it also has support for Quick Charge 4+ and wireless charging. Unfortunately, the phone does ditch the 3.5mm audio jack in lieu of which, you will have to make use of the type-C port or connect through Bluetooth.

The phone will be available in two colour variants in China viz. Pure White and Carbon Black. The phone isn’t way too expensive either and is priced just like the OnePlus 5T and the upcoming OnePlus 6. The 1TB variant, however, is priced more premium.

The Smartisan R1 is priced at
RMB 3,499 (approximately Rs 37,200) for 6GB RAM + 64GB storage.
RMB 3,999 (approximately Rs 42,500) for 6GB RAM + 128GB storage.
RMB 4,499 (approximately Rs 47,800) for 8GB RAM + 128GB storage.
RMB 8,848 (approximately Rs. 94,000) for 8GB RAM +  1TB storage.

The phone is available in Carbon Black and Pure White colors. The latter is only available in 128GB storage variants. At the moment, the Smartisan R1 is only selling in China right now.

Windows XP 2018 Edition concept mixes the old and the new

Windows XP 2018 Edition

If you have used a PC in the last 20 years, you will almost certainly have used the Windows XP operating system for a while. The moment of Windows XP already happened a decade ago but, what would Windows XP be like in 2018? Welcome to Windows XP 2018 Edition. Since 8 April 2014, Microsoft has no longer providing security updates and technical support. But the latest Newmarketshare report shows its immense importance by holding a significant share of 6.13 percent, which tells that it is still being used in many businesses and industries.

Even it is used by many industries, the outdated features of Windows XP don’t compete with latest Windows 10. But what if Windows XP is revamped with modern attire? How would Windows XP look if it is redesigned as per the standards and expectations for 2018? In the past, we have seen efforts like Windows XP running on iPhone 7, a powerful PC running XP being overclocked to 7GHz, and more. Now, a concept designer Kamer Kaan Avdan has come up with his new creation: Windows XP 2018 edition. In the video, made by Tech Youtuber, Mr.Kamer Kaan Avdan we see an operating system with the clean look and “fluent design” choices of Microsoft’s more modern operating systems like Window 10, but with color palettes and layouts more akin to Windows XP. It even comes complete with the original backdrops and login screens and brings back the Microsoft “Rover” pixellated dog character to preside over search results.

The Windows XP 2018 Edition is somehow similar to the XP we know. Avdan even keeps the original color scheme while also fusing the familiar classic XP look with more modern Windows 10 Fluent Design. There’s no full-fledged MetroUI here (thanks), but you will have touches of it as you hit the Start Menu. And it’s surprisingly gorgeous – cleaner even. I like it so much. It just a concept, okay. But I’m totally buying it.

We have to admit that especially after seeing this video we totally agree that Windows XP OS can make us nostalgic even in 2018. And for this reason, innovative minds such as the one of Kamer Kaan Avdan are doing a great job to make sure that XP stays in our memory.

This isn’t the first concept of a potential alternative modern Windows that Avdan has put together. Just a few months ago, Avdan released a video of a conceptual “Windows 11” which looks even cleaner than the retro-future XP idea does. It too borrows elements from Windows 10, but streamlines the user-interface and introduces visual elements to enhance features like weather reports that can cross between interfaces and windows.

WhatsApp Group Video Calling is giving some ‘lucky’ users a very cool new feature

WhatsApp Group Video Calling the cool new feature

At the F8 keynote, an important announcement regarding Facebook-owned WhatsApp was made that the  most popular instant messaging app with over a billion users around the world, is constantly improving to make communicating easier for users. Now, a new update has been spotted on some versions of WhatsApp, giving users the ultimate capability to perform group video calls. However, as of now, it has not been made available for everyone. Under WhatsApp's group video call feature, four people can be connected on a single video call.

On the other hand, a very few users have reported this update which means that the WhatsApp Group Calling feature hasn’t officially rolled out. According to WABeta Info, which is a renowned tipster for sharing accurate details in regards to the upcoming features of the instant-messaging app WhatsApp, the group calling feature have been spotted by a few users but it appears to be a limited rollout in which only a selected few will be able to see the feature, even if you are on the recent build of WhatsApp, whether on iOS or Android OS.

How to check if your WhatsApp has this new group video calling feature:

Step 1: Open WhatsApp

Step 2: Select a participant you wish to call

Step 3: Do a normal call

Step 4: Check if there is a new button “Add participant”

Step 5: If there is, then you can now have group calls if you don’t, then you cannot

If you still haven't received the new feature, wait a bit as it might arrive sooner than later. The group video calls on WhatsApp come shortly after Facebook confirmed the same during the F8 Keynote. At the time of presentation, WhatsApp group video calling slide was shown with just four users. It's safe to say that WhatsApp will only support four users on a group video call at a time.

If you're eager to try out the new feature, our best guess is to wait for a couple of weeks until the feature is widely available to all users, across all platforms. On the other hand, Facebook is also working on bringing group video calling to Instagram as well. Stay tuned for updates.

AI Based Behavior detection for public Place

AI Based Behavior detection for public Place

Lenovo Z5 Camera Samples Appear, Stamped With “AI Dual Camera” Watermark

Lenovo Z5

As being posted by the Lenovo VP Mr. Cheng, the camera sampled have been inscribed with a watermark that reads “Lenovo Z5” and “AI Dual Camera” adjacent to an infinity-like symbol representing the dual cameras at the back of the device. The watermark comes to say that the Z5 device will come with two cameras at the back that will use the power of artificial intelligence to detect a scene that is being captured and will enable specific camera modes and settings to bring the right amount of colours and details to the picture depending upon what is being clicked. The teaser claims the Z5 smartphone could store up to 1 million photos, 2,000 HD movies, and 150,000 lossless music files, all thanks to the generous 4TB storage. It's not clear if 4TB is in reference to expandable or internal storage, but the breakdown of what users can store suggests built-in storage. If true, Lenovo Z5 will be the world's first smartphone with the highest onboard storage.

The camera samples come with watermark and in this case, the watermark includes the name “Lenovo Z5” and “AI Dual Camera” with the icon of a dual camera by the side of the texts. We believe the watermark feature can be turned on and off in the camera settings. However, they show the Z5 will present with dual cameras and will also have artificial intelligence technology onboard the cameras. The camera samples seem to have been shot at dusk and dawn respectively when there isn’t so much bright light. So, the clarity of the samples is totally dependent on the dual camera’s prowess. The cameras were able to capture the natural colours of the subjects in an impressive way.

As of now, we do not have any clue regarding the innards of the smartphone. We can expect to see the Snapdragon 845 SoC as it is a flagship device. Given that the smartphone is pegged for a June 14 launch, we need to wait for a few more weeks to know what the company has got to offer this time.

Xiaomi MI7 will be 8th Anniversary Edition Specs and Design All Leaked to know

Xiaomi MI7

Chinese mobile maker Xiaomi is expected to launch the successor to its premium Mi 6 smartphone this year. Xiaomi fans were expecting a Mi 7 handset to be launched at MWC 2018, but that did not happen, and the company went on to unveil the Mi Mix 2S in March. However, the latest leaks suggest that Xiaomi will launch the smartphone later this month. Interestingly, reports also suggest that the company either launch two smartphones this year or will reportedly skip its Mi 7 branding to go for just Mi 8.

As per a MyDrivers report, Xiaomi will launch two handsets in May 2018. While one of them is said to be the Xiaomi Mi 7, the other is said to be the firm's 8th-anniversary edition. The leak claims that the special edition will be the highlight of the launch event. The new smartphone dubbed as the 8th Anniversary Edition phone is rumoured to be unveiled by the end of this month, and it may come with 3D facial recognition feature like the one present in Apple iPhone X. According to the report, it will be the first Android smarphone to feature 3D facial recognition. Similar to the Mi 7, Xiaomi's 8th Anniversary Edition phone is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 845 coupled with 8GB of RAM.

Coming to the nomenclature, Mocha RQ, a blogger in China wrote on microblogging site Weibo that Xiaomi will skip the Mi 7 name in favour of Mi 8. Chinese firms are usually obsessed with numbers. It is reminiscent of the time when another Chinese manufacturer OnePlus had skipped a OnePlus 4 smartphone because the number '4' is considered unlucky in China. The blogger explained that Xiaomi wants the name to align with its 8th anniversary. Also, the blogger added that the handset will be announced in May this year.

To recall, another report in April claimed that Xiaomi may, in fact, be one of the first brands to unveil a handset with 3D facial sensing with the launch of the latest Mi flagship. The report had also claimed that Xiaomi's plans to launch the smartphone with a Snapdragon 845 SoC in the first quarter this year have been delayed. Instead, the smartphone might see an unveiling after the third quarter.

In terms of specifications, the company CEO has already hinted that the Mi 7 will come with an under-display fingerprint sensor. Additionally, reports have suggested that the phone will come with 6GB RAM and Android 8.0.0 Oreo.

Microsoft is working to control false news on its platforms

CURB THAT FALSEHOOD

Alarmed by the mammoth spread of fake news, tech giant Microsoft is working round-the-clock on building “trusted” algorithms to control false news on its platforms like Bing Search engine and professional networking website LinkedIn.

According to David Heiner, strategic policy advisor at Microsoft, the problems Facebook and YouTube are facing with fake news today have alerted the tech companies the world over and Microsoft is right on the job in building Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven systems to fight back.

“We are already working on a couple of such AI-powered initiatives towards Bing and LinkedIn. We are also trying to forge tie-ups with trusted news sources and then indicate to users what is the source of the news and letting them make their own decisions,” Heiner said at the company’s sprawling, 500-acre campus.

The main challenge, according to him, are concerns regarding censorship and defining what is fake news.“A very high percentage of people get news from Facebook and (Google-owned) YouTube and both these major platforms are having troubles with handling fake news”.

“In the meantime, we have to draw a line for giving too much power to tech companies — in order to figure out what is being presented to the users that often leads to utterly fake news which is injurious to democracy and the civil society,” the senior company executive noted.

The need of the hour is to build “trustworthy AI” that is fair and doesn’t differentiate between religion, caste and colour.

“The whole idea is to build applications around AI in a trustworthy way. People will not share data and they must not be. With respect to users’ privacy, we need trusted AI systems that are safe and transparent,” Heiner explained.

There is a notion outside that a handful of big US tech companies or Chinese ones like Tencent Holdings and Alibaba will finally control the AI technology.

“Our vision is very different. We want AI for humanity, for all. AI is the new fundamental technology in terms of creating a huge impact on the society,” the executive emphasised.

There are six core concepts to achieving “trustworthy AI”. AI-based systems need to treat everyone fairly, must be safe, protect privacy and security, include everyone and need to be transparent as algorithms can be mysterious at times.

“Lastly, people who are deploying AI systems — be it at Microsoft or at other companies — are to be treated as accountable for the trustworthiness of their AI systems,” Heiner explained.

Microsoft is infusing AI into a whole range of applications -- Office 365, Azure Cloud, cognitive services and translation solutions, etc.

“The challenge is to ensure how data is it being collected and fed into an AI system. This demands utmost fairness and responsibility and we are very serious about it,” he added.

AI promises new capabilities but it has also raised questions about potential disruptions to the nature and distribution of jobs.

“It is really hard to predict the future on whether AI will kill jobs. Technology has always eliminated certain jobs and created new ones. We don’t know yet whether this will hold true for AI.

“But one thing is sure. Technology in overall, irrespective of AI, will have some impact on jobs like with automation in the recent past,” Heiner said. What will not be transferable to AI, perhaps, are distinct human qualities like judgment, emotions and empathy.

Microsoft is optimistic that AI systems are needed to be built in such a way that they augment human capabilities.

The company has announced “AI for Accessibility” — a new $25 million, five-year programme for developers globally including in India.

“AI is well suited to us as we build software to improve lives. The technology can do wonders in voice, speech recognition and translation solutions. Aided by AI, humans can reduce errors to a great extent — almost negligible — be it in healthcare or any other field,” Heiner noted.
