MIUI 7: New features in the global ROM

Xiaomi just released the global ROM of MIUI 7 in New Delhi, highlighting its customisable interface and certain India-specific features

 

 

Xiaomi has unveiled MIUI 7's Global ROM in an event held in New Delhi, India. MIUI 7 is based on Android Lollipop 5.1 and offers new themes, features, and visual elements. Here is everything you would want to know about ROM and its India-specific features.

MUSE:
MUSE is the theme designer from Xiaomi and lets you create your own custom themes. The best part about MUSE is that you don't need to have the complex coding knowledge to design your own themes and you can show off your Mi device to friends with something new and unique everyday.

Face Recognition Support for the Gallery App:
Xiaomi has improved the Gallery app of MIUI and has added face recognition support. As the name suggest, it will automatically recognize the faces in photos and categorizes them together. You can check out the feature by going to the 'People' tab in the Gallery app of MIUI 7. You can also edit names and create profiles on your phone for having a quick overview of all the photos of a specific person.

Daily Lockscreen:
This feature automatically chooses a new lockscreen image for you on daily basis. The images are chosen from a number of high quality photographs that also include some of the award winning pictures.

System UIs:
In MIUI 7, Xiaomi has introduced 4 different system UI designs: Rose, Pink Blush, Ocean Breeze, and High Life. You can choose your preffered design when you power up your Mi device.

Showtime:
The Showtime feature lets MIUI users to set video clip for individual contacts instead of ringtones. It means whenever your friend calls you, the set video will get played. You can record and set videos that are up to 5 seconds long.

Improved Visual IVR:
We all know how boring it is to call customer care numbers and then to follow those dull recorded voices that order you to press specific keys. Well not anymore as Xiaomi is bringing Visual IVR. This feature will show you the IVR menu on the screen so that you can quickly tap on the options relevant to you instead of waiting for the voice to get done with what it has to say. Although this feature is also available in MIUI 6, Xiaomi has improved it in MIUI 7 by adding support for 50+ companies.

Smart SMS Filter:
This useful feature will keep your SMS inbox clutter free by moving promotional messages into a separate notification tab.

Quick OTP:
The Quick OTP feature can prove to be really handy these days as all major websites and online services send an OTP for verification. With the help of an in-built OTP identifier, this feature lets user copy the OTP code easily just when the notification for the same will pop-up.

MIUI Data Saver:
Xiaomi has partnered with Opera Max to launch MIUI Data Saver. As the name suggests, this feature will reduce your data consumption and help you save some bucks on your data plan. Xiaomi claims that this feature can save up to 50% of data
As for what's under the hood, Xiaomi has claimed that new MIUI 7 ROM is 30% faster and consumes 25% less battery as compared to MIUI 6. They further mentioned that the rollout of MIUI 7 develper build (BETA) will start from August 24 and as of now, following devices are supported: Mi 3, Mi 4, Redmi 1S, Redmi Note (3G/4G), Mi 4i, and Redmi 2.
