Vodafone India to start 4G services in Delhi/NCR by December-end

Vodafone India, the country's second largest telco, said that it will commence 4G services in the highly lucrative Delhi-NCR market by December, 2015.

The company has invested over Rs 350 crores to upgrade the existing voice and data network and installed more than 550 sites in the last six months in Delhi-NCR. Delhi-NCR currently fetches the company around 30% of data revenues, and is among the top data markets for Vodafone in India.

The company said that Delhi-NCR is growing at around 50% year-on-year.

"We are excited to launch our new 4G services on the superior 1800 MHz band for our customers. Having launched 4G services in several countries, Vodafone has the requisite expertise and experience to ensure that its service in Delhi/NCR will be best in class," Apoorva Mehrotra, Business Head-Delhi and NCR, Vodafone India, said in a statement.

The telco said that testing of the 4G service has commenced and that it has partnered with leading global technology infrastructure service providers for the network roll-out.

Apart from Delhi/NCR, Vodafone India also plans to roll out its 4G services starting end-December 2015 in Mumbai, Kerala, Karnataka and Kolkata circles. The company had successfully acquired 4G (LTE) spectrum in 5 circles-- Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Kerala and Karnataka in February 2014 auctions.

India's No. 2 carrier is currently in talks with Swedish gear maker Ericsson and Finnish Nokia Networks for equipment supply deals in the other three circles, where it has 4G bandwidth.

Vodafone already selected Huawei for supply of base stations and other equipment for 4G networks in Karnataka and Kerala circles.
