Qualcomm quick charger 3.0, X12 LTE to hit Indian market in 2016

Qualcomm's next-generation mobile charging device, which can charge a phone from zero to 80% in about 35 minutes, is likely to be launched in the Indian market in early 2016 as many original equipment manufacturers are showing interest in the fast-charging technology.

The device, named Quick Charge 3.0, helps improve fast charging up to 27% when compared to its earlier version Quick Charge 2.0. The average time for a regular device to charge the same is 90 minutes.

Quick Charge 3.0 was unveiled at the 3G/LTE summit in Hong Kong. "We are significantly enhancing the capabilities and benefits offered by Quick Charge 3.0 to bring robust fast charging technology to all," said Alex Katouzian, senior vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies. "Quick Charge 3.0 addresses a primary consumer challenge with today's mobile devices in helping users restore battery life quickly and efficiently, and does so through leading technology and a robust ecosystem including leading device and accessory OEMs." It will be featured as an option on select Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, including Snapdragon 820, 620, 618, 617 and 430.

The device uses Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), a new algorithm developed by Qualcomm Technologies, to allow portable devices the ability to determine what power level to request at any point in time for optimum power transfer, while maximizing efficiency .

The company has also integrated its newly upgraded X12 LTE modem into the up coming Snapdragon 820 processor, providing up to 600 mbps download speed for premium tier mobile devices. Snapdragon 820 is the first publicly announced processor for use in mobile devices, providing up to 33% and 200% improvement over its predecessors' download and upload speeds respectively.

"The new technology will offer 50% faster website loading," said Cristiano Amon, executive VP and copresident of Qualcomm Technologies.

He said the industry would see an increased deployment of LTE carrier aggregation technology in the coming six months as telecom service providers look to increase network capacity and enhance user experience."Currently the users get only limited bandwidth. The ability to improve network capacity will drive smartphone sales," he added.
